Introduction: The Jiangsu Jintan Salt Cavern Compressed Air Energy Storage National Pilot Demonstration Project was approved by the National Energy Administration in 2017. It is the only national demonstration project for compressed air energy storage and a key project promoted by the National Energy Administration and Jiangsu Province. Developed jointly by China National Salt Industry Corporation, China Huaneng Group, and Tsinghua University, the first phase of the project has an installed capacity of 60 megawatts for power generation and a storage capacity of 300 megawatt-hours. The future construction scale is planned to reach 1,000 megawatts.
As the world's first non-recuperated compressed air energy storage power station, this project exclusively utilizes domesticallyproduced equipment for all major devices. However, it faces challenges such as difficulties in equipment research and development, integration issues due to its unique nature, lack of standards for power plant construction and operation maintenance, as well as no previous experience to draw from.
We hope that Senlan can be selected as a core equipment supplier for this project given their expertise as a leading domestic variable frequency technology enterprise. Specifically, we require high-voltage variable frequency starting devices and high-voltage variable frequency speed control systems for ultra-high-power compressors respectively. These equipments are scheduled to undergo load-starting in April 2022 followed by system commissioning in May 2022 before being put into production to support the operation of this national-level demonstration project.
Being the world's first non-recuperated compressed air energy storage power station with newly developed equipment poses significant challenges including disturbance-free start-up capability for ultra-high-power multistage centrifugal compressors; long-term stable variable frequency speed control operation capability for ultra-high-power compressors; large-scale synchronous brushless motor variable frequency drive; etc. We hope that Senlan can wholeheartedly work together with us to overcome these challenges using their deep technical reserves and a spirit of perseverance.
To address the challenges posed by nearly 30 MW ultra-high-power synchronous brushless motors and high-precision multistage large compressors, Senlan has developed unique synchronous motor control algorithms and independent control methods. These innovations provide low-frequency ultra-high starting torque for compressors, ensuring completely smooth starting curves without any impact. As a result, they have achieved a 100% success rate for soft start-up on-site while meeting the expectations for long-term stable speed control operation of ultra-high-power compressors.
The project encounters multiple technical difficulties such as coordinating multistage compressors, frequent energy storage and release, rapid start-up, multiple resonance points, etc. Despite the added pressure brought by the pandemic situation, the Senlan team has remained dedicated at the project site. Through real-time adjustments based on actual on-site conditions regarding technical parameters and control strategies, they have successfully resolved each problem one by one.
From technology demonstration to product design to on-site commissioning, Senlan's technology has gained recognition from various units including Tsinghua University, Jintan Salt Industry Corporation, China Huaneng Group. This further solidifies domestic frequency converter's position in high-end applications field.
